WORKING WITH CORONA VIRUS

FROM JUNE \2021 and going forward until further notice.

We are so pleased to be able to offer workshops again however we are constantly mindful of the health of both you, our customer, and our staff. This is our priority, and we ask that if you have any symptoms of Covid 19, please do not attend a workshop.

Currently, we ask that everyone wears a mask whilst in the shop. When attending a workshop, you may remove your mask when sitting at your workstation but please put it back on when moving around the workroom or shop, and if in close conversation with either the tutor or any other attendee or customer. This may change according to the government guidelines.

Please use the sanitizer, which is available throughout the shop and workroom, and observe social distancing.

Tea and coffee will be served in disposable cups, or you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer.

In addition to the usual basic sewing kit that we always ask you to bring to a workshop, you will also need to bring your own rotary cutters and travel irons.

Cutting boards and rulers are provided and sanitized between classes, as are the sewing machines and work stations, but you must not share equipment. When booking a class, please let us have your e-mail address so we can contact you before with a comprehensive list of any necessary equipment. Your contact details are not passed on to any third party. The majority of sewing classes require ‘a basic sewing kit’. This consists of pins, needles, tape measure, scissors, suitable for both paper and fabric, erasable fabric marker, threads etc. etc. all of which is available for you to purchase on the day if you do not have them.

Finally, we ask that you do not hug anyone even though we would all like one. Many of us have school age children and grandchildren and some of us have vulnerable relatives. We must be careful to look after ourselves and everyone else. The staff here have all been vaccinated, most of us having received both doses, and the younger members of staff are due to receive their second jabs imminently.

We hope that despite the restrictions, you can enjoy a relaxing, enjoyable and informative workshop with us.

Thank you from all the team at QCC.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

If you wish to attend one of our workshops, we respectfully request that you have received two Covid vaccinations. This will help to protect all attendees and staff. Under Health and Safety guidelines, we are required to take all reasonably practicable steps to reduce risks to their lowest practicable level.

After discussions with both staff and customers, we have concluded that this, together with our on-going Covid-19 procedures, will provide the safest environment possible for us all.

If you have any questions regarding this, please do not hesitate to contact us.

All staff will have received both doses by June 16th.

Thank you.

On a less serious subject, do not forget our embroidery exhibition begins this Friday 11th June and runs until Saturday 26th June, 9.30am-4pm each day excluding Sundays. There is no charge for admission, please just come along and enjoy looking at the beautiful work.

PUMPKIN PATCH - with Becky D

Sewing Curves. A technique day, perfecting curved patchwork piecing. This is not as difficult as we are led to believe and I know that we sometimes look at these beautiful patterns with circles etc. and dismiss them as too fiddly. We will show you how to wizz through your curves giving you so many design possibilities. The two traditional design choices are the Pumpkin Patch, also known as Orange Peel, and the Drunkard’s Path. We will also look at different ways of quilting your finished panels.

STRIP RUGS & BAGS - with Sue

STRIP RUGS & BAGS - with Sue

This is great fun to do, and so versatile. Originally made with Jelly Rolls, we have also embraced our hoard of scraps and if we can get reasonably long strips from them, they work just as well, although there is a little more work involved. The rug in the shop has had much attention, we have machine washed it and it is fine, so these are perfect for any room in your house. The bags are more substantial than your usual shopper but great to use in the car or to store your sewing paraphernalia as they stay upright. There will be a little preparation to do before the class and the rolls of wadding will be available on the day at a discounted price.

Saturday 3rd July, 10am-3pm Cost £30

LET’S START DESIGNING YOUR OWN QUILT - with Sue

LET’S START DESIGNING YOUR OWN QUILT - with Sue

Much, much easier than you think. We will go through choosing blocks, applique designs, marrying sizes and altering your plans as the quilt begins to emerge, so not necessarily sticking rigidly to your original plan. This is a course for anyone who can use a sewing machine and you can make your design as simple or elaborate as you wish. You do not have to make a quilt; in fact, I would suggest you make a panel which you could then repeat as many times as you needed. For the sample I chose a modern layout with some applique using Japanese inspired fabrics but the choice is completely yours. The aim is for the panels to evolve as you are putting them together.

Monday’s 5th & 12th July, 10am-3pm each day Cost for both days £60

ALL ABOUT THE QUILTING - with Sue

Let’s Get Out of the Ditch! We know that free motion quilting is not everyone’s favourite technique, so how do we quilt that quilt? There are very easy options and today you can see just what a difference you can make to your quilts. We will spend the first hour making a runner, or mats, whichever you prefer, to showcase your quilting and then the rest of the day quilting with the feed dogs up giving you complete control of your machine. Stitching in the ditch is fine, but it does not add to the quilt, whereas climbing out of the ditch adds texture.
